ACUPUNCTURE
FOR ATHLETES
Knee Pain
More than four million people seek help for
knee pain every year according to the National Institutes of
Health. A leading cause of knee pain, especially in young
people, is patellofemoral pain syndrome or PFPS, which results
from high doses of mega-vitamins combined with prescription
drugs. This means that young athletes are particularly
susceptible to PFPS.
Western medicine has proven basically
ineffective against PFPS. Acupuncture, on the other hand,
appears to have a dramatic effect on reducing the pain and
improving the function of the joint (research done by Jensen
Fysikalske Institutt, Bergen, Norway). The use of acupuncture in
the United States has saved many an athlete’s knee from the
surgeon.
Improved Energy Levels and Sports
Performance
Cordyceps is an ancient Chinese herbal
remedy made from a rare and scarce fungus Cordyceps sinensis.
It has been traditionally used as a general tonic to rejuvenate
people after sickness or overexertion and is said to be more
potent than ginseng. It allows better breathing, activates the
immune system, and is an MAO inhibitor.
The mainland Chinese claim it is responsible
for the high performance of their athletes.
Caveat: cordyceps is not a panacea and may
interfere with other therapy. It should be dispensed by your
acupuncturist.
Cordyceps is $15.00 for 30 caps.
Scarce usually equals expensive.
NEW FRONTIERS IN LONGEVITY
CMO or cetyl myristoleate
CMO stops arthritis from occurring because it
stops the immune system from erroneously attacking the collagen
in the joints and functions as a lubricant.
We carry Colustrum + Artho Formula which
contains CMO. $27.00 for 120 caps.
MSM or methyl-sulfonyl-methane
MSM is a natural form of sulfur. It is
present in almost all vegetables, raw meat, raw fish, and
unpasteurized milk. It is lost in cooking. Collagen cannot be
made unless MSM is present.
MSM is NOT related to sulfa
drugs!!!!
MSM is $17.50 for 90 capsules.
Curcumin or Turmeric
Yes, this is that yellow, bitter spice used
in Indian cooking. Curcumin loves the nitrogen compound in your
joints that destroys collagen. We
carry it standardized in capsules. It is $24.00 for90 caps, 500
mg each.
Chitin
Chitin is the exoskeleton or shell of
shellfish. It absorbs fat, so there are a great many products
being sold composed of it. It does bind up fat and take it out
of the body through fecal waste.
Caveat:
Chitin cannot distinguish between good fat (Essential Fatty
Acids) and bad fat. Your brain is over
half fat and your nerves are coated with EFAs. Use chitin with
caution. If you are taking vitamins, minerals, and/or
prescriptions, take them in the morning to make sure they have
been absorbed by the body before you take chitin at the noon and
evening meals.
Do not use chitin if you are allergic to
shellfish!
We carry Chitolean by DaVinci Labs. It
contains chitin, vitamin C, and rice bran. $20.00
for 60 caps.
DMAE or dimethylaminoethanol
DMAE inhibits MAO (monoamine oxidase) which
accelerates aging. Too much MAO translates into deposits of
lipofuscin which we call "age spots" when we see them
on our hands. But, "age spots" are not just external:
they are in the retinas, the heart, the liver, and the brain.
DMAE stimulates the production of choline,
the primary neurotransmitter involved in memory.
Noni Juice
Noni is a popular herbal product used to
boost energy. It will also boost your potassium to lethal
levels. Noni has a higher concentration of potassium than any
other juice. If you have kidney problems, leave noni alone.
Grapefruit Pectin Powder
Claims have recently been made that pectin
powder from the white pith of the grapefuit will clean your
arteries like "Drano". I have not been able to get
hold of any and you can start eating grapefruit, although the
researchers say that, in order to get enough from just eating
grapefruit, you would have to gorge on it all day.
